I’m in my mid-70s and feel happier than ever. Here’s what I do differently to my peers

In the twilight years of my life, I’ve discovered I’m more content than I ever was in my youth or middle age. I’ve often heard it said that growing old is a curse, a slow descent into frailty and loneliness.

But, in my mid-70s, I find myself debunking this notion quite happily. When people first hear about my age, they usually respond with surprise. “You don’t look your age!” they’d say, or “You seem so happy and full of life!”

And they’re right! I am happy. I am joyful. I am content. I’m having the time of my life in my 70s, and it’s not due to some magical potion or secret anti-aging regimen.

It’s because of a few simple yet profound lifestyle changes that are quite contrary to what most of my peers seem to subscribe to.

Before this transition into jubilant old age, I was just like everyone else. Living in Arizona after retiring from a fulfilling career as an Editor, my life revolved around crossword puzzles, afternoon naps, and the occasional social gathering.

But one day it hit me – was this all there was to look forward to in my twilight years?

Deciding to change gears, I embarked on an unconventional journey that completely flipped my perspective on aging and what constitutes happiness in this stage of life. The result? An insatiable zest for life that’s made me happier than ever before.

Now, after almost a decade of living differently than most people of my age group, I’ve decided it’s high time to share my experiences.

Not as a guide or a manual for others to follow verbatim, but as an account of how choosing a different path has led me to discover an unexpected happiness in old age.

So here is my journey from being an ordinary retiree to becoming an incredibly happy septuagenarian. And how, in my mid-70s, I feel more alive and content than I ever did in my youth.
