Global English Editing was founded in 2014 by Graeme Brown and Brendan Brown as a professional editing and proofreading company. Built as the international sister site to The Expert Editor, Brendan’s Melbourne-based editing practice founded in 2012, Global English Editing has grown into an international operation serving students, academics, authors, and businesses worldwide.
Our editors are subject matter specialists. We use the flexibility of being exclusively online to match every project with the right editor, regardless of where they are in the world. The result is an uncommon combination of quality, speed, and affordability.
Meet our chief editors
Brendan Brown
Chief Editor & Co-Founder
Brendan founded The Expert Editor in Melbourne in 2012 and Global English Editing in 2014. He hires the team of professional editors who work with clients, sets the editorial standards on this site, and reviews articles before publication.
Graeme Brown
Chief Editor & Co-Founder
A former mathematics teacher and assistant principal in Australian high schools, Graeme moved into entrepreneurship and editing in his later years. He shares oversight of the editorial standards and writes essays drawing on a long Australian life and a lifelong reader’s instinct for the craft of sentences.
The two of them are accountable for editorial direction on this site. Read the full masthead.
Our editorial blog
Years of editing manuscripts across writing craft, academic communication, and the psychology of language gave us a perspective on these subjects that went beyond grammar and structure. We kept noticing that the hardest part of writing wasn’t technical — it was human. So we started writing about it.
Today the Global English Editing editorial blog covers five interrelated subjects, each one shaped by the editing work we do daily:
- Writing & Editing — practical guidance on grammar, structure, style, and revision.
- Communication — the psychology of conversation, what people say, and what it reveals.
- Language & Intelligence — vocabulary, nonverbal cues, and what language reveals about thinking.
- Creative Process — writing habits, blocks, perfectionism, and the inner experience of writing.
- Reading & Books — reading habits, literary culture, and the books that quietly shape how we think.
Articles are produced with AI assistance and reviewed by our chief editors before publication. See our editorial standards for the full process.
Our services
Beyond the editorial blog, Global English Editing is a working editing house. We provide professional editing and proofreading across three main service areas:
- Students and Academics — theses, dissertations, journal articles, essays.
- Authors and Publishers — book editing, proofreading, manuscript evaluation.
- Businesses and Professionals — confidential business editing and proofreading.
