12 things a man will say when he’s secretly in love with you

He loves you? He loves you not?

Ugh.

You spend a lot of time with him, but still, you can’t really get a read on him!

Of course you don’t wanna assume that he indeed likes you only to embarrass yourself and be broken-hearted later on.

Well then, it’s definitely time to decode the guy…and you can do it best by paying attention to the things he says.

Here are 12 things a man will say when he’s secretly in love with you.

1) “Heeeey!”

He has nothing important to tell you… and yet, he always tries to find ways to talk to you.

You’re the first one he greets when he enters the room.

And he sends you a quick text saying, “Heeey” if you haven’t talked to each other, even for just a short while.

He sends you memes he thinks are funny, and talks about random stuff just to get your attention, too.

But of course, he keeps it light and friendly. After all, he doesn’t want you to know just how much he’s into you.

2) “Uhh… are you seeing anyone right now?”

Even if he’s the shyest guy to walk the earth, if he’s in love with you, he will ask this question.

He can’t help it, he just has to know! It’s actually for the same reason you’re reading this article right now.

He’s scared that he’s keeping his hopes up for someone who’s already in a relationship.

Besides, he’s worried he’d get a punch on the nose by getting too friendly with you if you’re indeed already in a relationship.

And the big clue that he’s definitely secretly in love with you? He’d give out a sigh of relief when you tell him you’re not dating anyone.

3) “If you need anything, I’m here.”

A man in love is the most supportive man you’d ever meet.

He’d ask you if you need help with anything. And when you call him, he’ll be there no matter how busy he is.

He might be drowning in deadlines, but he’d rush to your side at the first call. Even if you’re only freaking out over a giant spider in the bathroom.

A man in love would love the opportunity to swoop in and save the day—well, YOUR day at least.

So, let him support you. Just make sure you don’t abuse his heroic-level of kindness towards you.

4) “Wow. You’re so talented/ smart/ funny.”

A man in love has his rose-tinted glasses on when he looks at you.

To everyone, you may be ordinary—good at best. But for your guy? You’re a freaking wonder!

You’re the nicest, cutest, sweetest, funniest—all amazing things rolled into one amazing package.

And there’s not much you can do to turn him off!

He sees all your little flaws and missteps as just adorable.

So, when you hear a man showering you with praise, then he’s probably so into you that he can’t help but put you on a pedestal.

5) “Who’s that guy?”

He may not show any sign that he’s into you on regular days, but when you’re with a guy—especially a cute one—he turns into an awkward and nervous wreck!

He stutters, fumbles, and even acts unusually distant.

And you know that’s what’s bothering him because he can’t help but ask you: “Who’s that guy?”

When you give him a vague response, he gets even more anxious.

But when you make it clear that he’s nothing to you, he breathes an obvious sigh of relief and goes back to his normal self.

If your guy is acting this way, it can’t be any clearer: he’s totally into you.

Give him a break and let him know you’re into him, too.

6) “You’re not like other girls.”

Of course, on one hand, this is true. You’re not like other girls, in the sense that all girls are different.

But on the other hand, it’s also untrue. You also share a lot of similarities with girls everywhere!

But a man who’s falling for you thinks you’re this iridescent snowflake—unique and magnificent—and that you deserve to be in a museum for it (the museum that is his heart).

He’ll notice the little things you do—your quirks, your habits, even the way you hold your pen.

And he’ll casually comment on them, attempting to hide the fact that he notices everything about you.

So, despite the flaw in his words, it all means this: he’s into you. And maybe what actually makes you unique is that you’re the girl he wants to be with, and no one else.

You’re like the rose in Little Prince, you’re special because you’re his rose!

7) “You kinda remind me of my crush.”

I know it’s strange that he’d say you’re not like other girls… and then, say he thinks you’re a bit like his crush.

But I think it’s not a bad pick-up line. Plus, he really means it.

This guy must have a distinct taste in women.

And while it’s possible that he likes you because he still has feelings for his ex-crush, it’s likely that what he’s really trying to say is this: I think I could also fall in love with you.

8) “I know your favorite color is red.”

Or “I know your favorite drink is lemonade.”

Or “I know you love David Sedaris.”

A guy in love has a very sharp memory—but of course, only with the things related to his beloved.

He notices every little detail, and he commits to memory the things that you tell him.

Yeah, kinda creepy…but he can’t help it.

He wants to be the guy who knows what you like. He’s just that into you.

9) “I hate them too!”

Tell him that certain people rub you the wrong way, and he’d side with you.

Tell him about Nina, your evil boss who glares at you from 9-5, or your uncle Nelson who gossips about you at family functions…

And you can be sure that he’d tell you that, yes, they’re indeed awful people.

He wants to make you feel like you’re not alone—because he’s there. And that whatever happens, he’s got your back.

Why?

Duh. Because he’s secretly in love with you!

10) “You know I’d do anything for you.”

This might sound like he’s revealing his true feelings for you… but then he’d say it in a friendly way, that you can’t help but think “Nah, he’s just being a good friend.”

So, how can you tell if he’s really into you?

If he’s always—and I mean ALWAYS—there for you.

You see, if he’s just a friend, he might be there for you sometimes. After all, he has his own life to attend to.

But if you notice that he makes you his top priority, then there’s no doubt about it—this man is in love with you!

11) “I saw your post.”

Some guys are just lurkers.

But you’d know a guy is into you if he’s not usually one to pass the time online and yet, he checks ALL of your stories. He likes and comments on them, too.

Yup, nowadays, don’t we all show affection for someone by keeping up to date on their social media presence?

And him using your social media posts to strike a conversation with you?

It’s today’s version of making a move!

12) “Any guy would be so lucky to have you.”

So, not only does he find you attractive, he thinks you have a great personality, too!

Maybe you have traits that he’s looking for in a girl.

And you can see that he’s not saying this to make you feel good about yourself. It’s actually sort of a confession.

His eyes twinkle and he holds his breath as he says this line… and he’s hoping you’d be able to read the subtext: he wants to be that lucky guy.

Last words:

The truth is that you can spend countless hours looking for and decoding signs, and still might not find enough to tell you definitively that someone is in love with you.

And anyway, if people could know for sure, falling in love would be a little less magical, don’t you think?

If you’ve found the person that you want to be with—someone who treats you well, makes you happy, sees and values the person that you are—at some point, you’re gonna have to take the plunge.

Drop big hints that you like them, too. Or heck, tell them directly how you feel!

Risk it, even with all the uncertainty because love is always worth it.
