Being an awesome person isn’t about aesthetic appeal or popularity. It’s about the quality of one’s character and actions.

Awesome people are those who infuse life with empathy, creativity, and authenticity. They are not measured by their wealth or status, but by the strength of their values and their commitment to personal growth.

They are the ones who embrace challenges as opportunities for learning, who use their resources for good and who understand that real empowerment comes from taking responsibility for their actions.

These people radiate positivity, but not a superficial kind. It’s a deep-seated positivity that stems from aligning their lives with their deepest values, and from the courage to be true to themselves in every situation.

But how can you tell if someone is truly an awesome person? Here are 9 behaviors to look out for.

1) They take responsibility for their actions

Awesome people understand that the key to personal freedom and resilience is taking full responsibility for their actions.

They don’t waste time blaming others or external circumstances for their challenges. Instead, they focus on what they can control – their own attitudes, responses, and decisions. They realize that every problem they face is an opportunity to tap into their creative potential and find innovative solutions.

This behavior is not only admirable, but it’s also empowering. By taking responsibility for their actions, awesome individuals inspire others around them to do the same. They lead by example, showing that it’s possible to rise above victimhood and take charge of your own life.

But taking responsibility isn’t about carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. It’s about recognizing your role in shaping your own experiences and understanding that you have the power to influence the direction of your life.

2) They embrace obstacles as opportunities for growth

Awesome people have a unique perspective on life’s challenges. Where some may see insurmountable obstacles, they see opportunities for growth and learning.

For instance, when I faced the challenge of starting Ideapod, it was a daunting task. There were countless obstacles, from funding to building a user base. Yet, instead of viewing these as roadblocks, I saw them as opportunities to learn, adapt, and evolve.

This mindset doesn’t come naturally to everyone. It takes conscious effort to shift our perception of failure from something to be avoided at all costs to something that can be embraced as a valuable learning tool.

This outlook is beautifully encapsulated in the words of Thomas Edison: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” It’s a reminder that every setback is just another stepping stone towards success. It’s not about how many times you fall; it’s about how many times you get back up and keep going with newly gained wisdom and resilience.

3) They value self-awareness and personal growth

Awesome people are not just aware of their strengths, but also their weaknesses. They understand that self-awareness is the cornerstone of personal growth and authenticity. They don’t shy away from introspection, rather they embrace it, using it as a tool to uncover their fears, challenge their limiting beliefs, and cultivate self-compassion.

One powerful way to enhance self-awareness is through a transformative mirror exercise I share in one of my videos. It involves asking yourself five crucial questions that can help boost your self-confidence and provide a deeper understanding of your inner strengths.

It’s essential to remember that personal growth is a lifelong journey, not a destination. It’s about being committed to evolving, learning, and becoming the best version of yourself.

4) They align their financial decisions with their values

Awesome people understand that prosperity isn’t just about amassing wealth. It’s about aligning financial decisions with one’s deepest values and utilizing money as a tool for positive change.

This might mean prioritizing ethical spending and investing, supporting businesses that are socially responsible, or using their financial resources to contribute to causes they deeply care about.

They see money not as an end in itself, but as a means to an end—a tool that can help them live out their values and make a difference in the world. They realize that every financial choice they make is a vote for the kind of world they want to live in.

This approach to money isn’t always easy. It requires conscious effort, self-discipline, and sometimes making tough choices. But the reward comes in the form of a life that’s not only financially stable but also meaningful and congruent with one’s innermost beliefs and values.

5) They are dedicated to being a force for positive change

Awesome people are not just spectators in the world; they actively participate in shaping it. They are dedicated to being a force for positive change, whether through their creative pursuits, relationships, work, or engagement with social issues.

This isn’t about grand gestures or massive impact. Instead, it’s about making a difference in the ways they can, no matter how small. They understand that every action counts and that collective small actions can lead to significant change.

They strive to contribute their unique gifts and talents in ways that serve something greater than themselves. They hold a vision of a world where creativity, compassion, and collaboration are the guiding principles, and they take responsibility for their choices and actions towards creating this future.

6) They view themselves as part of a community

Awesome people understand that while personal growth is crucial, it’s equally important to be part of a community. They recognize that their actions and decisions have an impact on others, and they strive to contribute positively to their communities.

This might seem contrary to the common notion that personal success comes from individual efforts alone. However, awesome people realize that we’re all interconnected. They see the value in collective success and shared prosperity.

They believe in the power of supportive communities and authentic relationships. Through these connections, they find the courage to pursue their dreams, resilience to overcome challenges, and joy in shared experiences.

They understand that none of us can thrive alone. We need each other to grow, learn, and succeed. As such, they invest time and energy in building meaningful relationships and fostering a sense of community wherever they go.

7) They embrace failure as feedback

Awesome people don’t fear failure; instead, they embrace it as a crucial part of their growth process. They understand that every challenge, every setback is an opportunity to learn something new and improve.

They view failure not as the end but as feedback – a chance to reassess their approach, make necessary adjustments, and continue moving forward. They see every challenge as containing the seeds of creative possibility.

This mindset allows them to keep going even in the face of adversity, to persist when others might give up. Because they know that on the other side of failure often lie the most valuable lessons and the most significant growth.

8) They cultivate authentic relationships

Awesome people place a high value on authenticity in their relationships. They believe in the fundamental dignity and worth of every individual, and they strive to cultivate relationships based on mutual respect, empathy, and cooperation.

They understand that authentic connections come from showing up as their true selves, without masks or pretenses. They are not afraid to be vulnerable, to share their fears and dreams, their successes and failures.

These authentic relationships form a crucial part of their support system, providing them with encouragement, inspiration, and a sense of belonging. They know that it’s through our connections with others that we can truly thrive.

9) They live in alignment with their values

Last but certainly not least, awesome people live in alignment with their values. Every decision they make, every action they take is guided by their deepest beliefs and principles.

This alignment is not always easy to maintain. It requires self-awareness, courage, and sometimes making difficult choices. But for them, living a life that’s in harmony with their values is non-negotiable.

Whether it’s through their work, their relationships, or their engagement with social issues, they strive to contribute their unique gifts in service of something greater than themselves. They hold a vision of a world where creativity, compassion, and collaboration are the guiding principles – a world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Embracing our Awesome Potential

The concept of being an “awesome” person isn’t one-dimensional; it’s a multifaceted blend of character traits, attitudes, and behaviors. It’s about embracing our creative potential, challenging ourselves to grow, aligning our actions with our values, and fostering authentic relationships.

These behaviors are not just attributes of a select few. They are capacities within all of us that we can nurture and develop. Every decision we make, every challenge we face, is an opportunity to tap into our inherent potential and cultivate these awesome attributes.

The journey towards being an awesome person is not a linear one. It involves setbacks and victories, challenges and triumphs. But with each step we take towards embracing these behaviors, we move closer to becoming the best versions of ourselves.

As you reflect on these behaviors, consider the question: How can you incorporate these traits into your own life? What steps can you take today to start your journey towards becoming an awesome person?
